Parent Testimonials

Fiona Jefferson

Mum of Alex, Lewis and Max

Andy has taught all three of my sons over the last ten years, in drums, keyboard and electric guitar, individually and in bands. He has a great way with kids, understanding their different learning styles, encouraging them and challenging them in equal measure. His friendly, engaging nature enabled him to foster great relationships with all three very different personalities, resulting in them looking forward to their lessons, creating a relaxed and productive learning environment. Whilst he supports those wishing to formalise their learning by working through their grades, he does not push this onto children, focusing on their enjoyment in playing, allowing them to make their own decisions. My sons have made different choices and have all been able to work towards their individual goals. As a parent, he is a pleasure to welcome him into my home and I would thoroughly recommend him to anyone wishing to learn.

The Reynolds Family

We have been so fortunate to have Andy teaching our daughters during their time at Poppleton Ousebank primary. Maisy on the drums since year 2, now playing (and rapping!!) in the year 6 band. Maisy is loving every minute and we are watching her confidence grow and grow! Heidi was singing in her band in years 5 and 6, something she desperately misses now in year 8 in her secondary school. Andy's endless encouragement and enthusiasm along with his genuine passion for music has contributed massively to the confident little performers we have today. Thanks Andy!

Helen Armstrong

Mum of Joe, Grace and Eleanor

All 3 of my children have been in bands with Mr. Crilley. They really enjoyed the whole experience of playing and performing in a band. It helped them to gain confidence and all 3 went on to continue performing at senior school. Andy is always encouraging the children and is flexible and supportive to parents too! I would recommend Andy Crilley wholeheartedly - I know you will enjoy the music as much as my family have.

Ritch Battersby

The Wildhearts

Over the last two years Mr Crilley has taught my son to play drums and read drum music to a remarkably high standard. Whilst learning to play drums he also played in the school band which was lead by Mr Crilley. This has helped immensely with his confidence. I can’t thank Mr Crilley enough for his inspirational teaching and professional approach and for giving my son the foundations to become a competent musician.

Sue Cook

Mum of Isabel

My daughter has been having singing lessons with Andy for a couple of years and she loves his lessons. The lessons have covered how to look after your voice, harmonising, writing songs and solo singing. Not only has my daughters singing improved, but her confidence has soared! She if now happy to sing solo or within a group in front of large crowds of people. We are all looking forward to seeing how she gets on when singing as part of a band.

Kirsti Morris

Mum of Eben and Leonie

I just want to say thanks so much for being such a great teacher to Eben (and Leonie!). I know year six became a bit challenging for all concerned but in general Eben’s thoroughly enjoyed his drumming at Ousebank and Eben and Leonie both thought you were fantastic! When we watched the bands play at Acomb/Earswick it always struck us how enthusiastic and engaging you were with all of your bands, always smiling and enjoying yourself. The other teachers (don’t tell them!) didn’t have this so we felt lucky that Leonie and Eben had you.

Liz & Tim O'Neil

Parents of Daisy

Hi Andy, we would like to take the opportunity to thank you for what you have done to boost Daisy's confidence. We never would have believed that she would stand on stage and sing in public. Having now seen it with our own eyes (several times), we are really impressed that you have achieved something that we never could never have done.

Alex Lindley

Mum of the bands drummer

Mr. Crilley and his service has been fantastic for our son. A keen drummer already, he's really benefitted from the experience of playing with a band, rather than just playing along to backing tracks. We can already see the difference it's made to his playing and listening skills. Andy is a great teacher with a real talent for helping kids of all levels of ability to perform together.

Helen Curry

Mum of Sophie and Joe ages 9 & 10

Sophie and Joe thoroughly enjoy Mr. Crilley’s weekly lessons. The lessons allow them to develop their love of music in a fun and enjoyable way and Andy is a fantastic and enthusiastic teacher. Having the opportunity to perform and sing in front of an audience, both at concerts and in school assemblies, is amazing and unforgettable for the kids and really helps to boost their confidence in themselves.
